Extension & CLI FAQ
Answers to common questions about local validation, architecture policy enforcement, CI usage, and how the ArchPilot extension and CLI relate to Cloud.
Use this page when you need a quick product answer without reading a full workflow page.
Can ArchPilot be used without Cloud?
Yes. Teams can start with the extension and CLI alone because architecture validation is local-first. As adoption grows across repositories or teams, Cloud becomes the natural next step for shared visibility, history, and governance workflows.
Does ArchPilot require hosted validation?
No. The core architecture validation workflow is local and deterministic. CI uses the same validation model rather than a different hosted engine.
Is this only for monorepos?
No. ArchPilot supports both single-project repositories and monorepos, with Smart Init helping model the repository shape from local evidence.
When should a team use governance upload?
Use governance upload when local validation results need to become shared organization checkpoints in ArchPilot Cloud, such as for architecture dashboards, snapshot history, findings review, ownership-aware governance, or policy workflows that span more than one repository.
